Hi Emma, tell us a little bit about you and your family?
I live in North Yorkshire with my husband Luke, our 11 month old baby girl Coco and Harlow the cat. I work for an online publishers and Luke is an engineer. We’ve been together for ten years and married for four.
What was the idea behind Coco’s nursery?
I wanted the nursery to have a light, bright and happy vibe about it. The picture wall was the starting point. I love to read sayings and quotes, anything that makes you feel positive or uplifted. I didn’t want the pieces we put in the nursery to only be suitable for babies, I wanted the room to evolve and grow with Coco. I’d love to think that when she is 17, she still has things in her room (out of choice!) that she had when she was a little girl.
We love the hanging clothes branch. How did your husband go about creating this unique piece?
I saw a picture on Pinterest and my heart skipped a beat! I knew this would be the perfect unique piece for the nursery. I showed my husband the picture and that afternoon off he went into the woods opposite our house and returned with a branch before disappearing into the garage for several hours! He had removed the bark, sanded the wood down and varnished it. Then screwed hooks to hang the clothes hangers from. I was over the moon with how it looked and the fact that Luke made it makes it all the more special.
What items in Coco’s room do you love the most?
Aside from the clothes branch I love the Coco Mademoiselle illustration (mbaileyillustrations on Etsy). This was the first item I bought for the nursery, we always knew that if we had a daughter that we would call her Coco, so when we found out at the 20 week scan that “Poppyseed” was a girl, the planning and purchasing began!
The tissue paper cloud mobile is very special to me as it was a decoration made by my lovely friend (and Coco’s godmother) Louise for my surprise baby shower.
I also love our customised “Coco” Sketch Inc kokeshi doll, it’s so darn cute!
Where do you like to look for décor & interior inspiration?
Pinterest and Instagram are of course part of my staple inspiration diet! Where would we be without them out – especially during night feeds! I love American site 100 LayerCake-Let, they feature some fabulous nurseries and their children party ideas are epic. The Glitter Guide is a great site too, I can often be found trawling their site on my lunch break.
Do you have any tips for mums to be on creating a beautiful room for their baby?
This is likely to be the one time you have complete “creative control” on your child’s room. Before you know it, it will be Star Wars posters, Peppa Pig wallpaper or One Direction bedding. So indulge your own tastes and create a beautiful space for you and your baby. Remember in the first few months of baba’s life you will spend almost as much time in the nursery as they will! So make it a space that you feel happy and comfy in.
Create a mood board and have fun with the whole process of designing and coming up with ideas for the room.
