Happy (slightly belated) New Year everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing break over the holidays. I was hoping to start this year as we all do, feeling re-energised and inspired. Instead we rang in the new year sipping
Lemsip Asda value cold & flu sachets instead of champagne! We were hit by the joyful winter flu bug and I’m pretty sure we’d have all happily slept through the first week of 2017.
If you follow us on Instagram you’ll have spotted we moved into our new home a week before Christmas! Safe to say it’s been a busy few weeks trying to get settled along with endless trips to B&Q and Ikea. Thankfully we made the decision before the move to stay at a hotel for the first couple of nights to help lift our spirits. It was amazing to have a huge crisp white bed to come back to after those initial long days.
A couple of weeks on (plus a lot of late nights) the boys’ room is nearly finished. We’re really pleased with how it’s coming together and I can’t wait to share a proper post on it soon! We still need to wait a couple of weeks before we can put their harlequin wallpaper up. I feel the room is seriously needing that mint green pop of colour and a couple more accessories… possibly these cute letter lights above the boys’ beds and some Ferm Living Happy Flags.
The rest of the house is our next challenge! Unfortunately, the only rooms we can work on ourselves are the bedrooms. However, now that our building warrant has been approved we’ll hopefully be getting our final tender drawings back from the architects any day now. As soon as we have those we can start the main work of making our kitchen and living room open plan. We feel very Grand Designs just now, but I must get “the fear” about once a day. It feels like we’ve taken on a much bigger project than we first anticipated.
It’s also meant we don’t feel very settled in our new home yet, as we haven’t fully unpacked knowing that chaotic building work will be starting soon. With this in mind I’ve been struggling to find motivation and a new routine amongst the clutter. Some of it’s fun, but I have to admit I occasionally miss the comforts of living in our old apartment, which was part of a new build complex. Our tall ceilings and exposed floorboards may look lovely and have plenty of character, but I must have to boost our heating ten times a day!! It’s frrrr-eezing!! I’ve never been so excited for spring. Ever.
Speaking of spring, I’m looking forward to getting started on a couple of projects we have lined up already for 2017 here on Chalk Kids. We have some gorgeous SS16 look books to share with you guys, plus some other goodies! Thanks for bearing with this slow start here on the blog and as always thank you for reading and supporting this little nook of the internet!
