We recently visited Edinburgh’s Winter Wonderland where I noticed a number of people cradling delicious looking hot chocolates between their gloved fingers. These were no average hot chocolates and were pimped out with whipped cream, chocolate bars and a final drizzling of hot fudge. Unsurprisingly the queues were huge so sadly we missed out on this trip, but a few days on and I’m still thinking about them! I took a mental note of some of my favourites from the various market stalls I spotted and hunted down some recipes so that we can all whip up these festive drinks at home. Enjoy!
Terry’s Chocolate Orange Hot Chocolate
2 cups of milks
1 Terry’s Chocolate Orange
1tbsp Cocoa powder
Whisk the cocoa powder into milk in a saucepan and simmer (be careful not to bring to boil). Slowly add in 3-4 pieces of Terry’s Chocolate Orange broken into smaller pieces. Once the chocolate has melted, ladle into mugs and serve topped with whipped cream and chocolate orange shavings.
Thick Hot Chocolate Ice Cream Float
2 cups of organic milk
10g cocoa powder
5-10 g sugar (depending on how sweet you like it)
10g corn starch
1 scoop of your favourite ice cream (we think vanilla works best)
In a small saucepan combine milk, cocoa powder and corn starch with a whisk. Put on a low heat and, while constantly stirring, bring to a boil. Add sugar and keep on stirring until the consistency has reached the desired thickness. Add a scoop of ice cream to your mugs then pour over the hot chocolate, top with white chocolate chips, ground hazelnuts and if you’re feeling extra decadent some chocolate fudge.
