During the last few months Finlay’s finally shown more of an interest in his bedtime stories. He’s gone from kind of paying attention to now requesting 3 books – The perseverance has paid off at last! His bedtime routine usually consists of one longer story and two short Thomas ones. As a book nerd myself, it’s made me so happy to see Finlay engage with a story and to watch his little hands turning the pages. Parker joins in too, usually chewing on a toy as he happily listens and takes in the pictures. Our latest books, which I picked up for the boys’ birthdays, have been such a hit that I thought I’d share them with you.
1. The Way Back Home by Oliver Jeffers
We love anything by Oliver Jeffers, amazing artwork and always a quirky story to match!
2. My Dad Used To Be So Cool by Keith Negley
Think the title says it all – Sorry Dads!
3. They All Saw a Cat by Brendan Wenzel
This stunning book follows a cat, but looking different from a bunch of various animals’ perspectives. Such as a bird looking down from the sky or to a fish from his fish bowl. Such a simple yet fun idea!
4. The Storm Whale by Benji Davies
This is a lovely thoughtful book with beautiful illustrations that speak just as loud as the words. It’s also the perfect length for younger children.
5. The Day The Crayons Came Home by Drew Daywalt
The fabulous sequel to The Day The Crayons Quit. It’s hilarious and just as entertaining for adults as it is for youngsters, all the things we love in a children’s book!
6. The Airport Book by Lisa Brown (not pictured)
Finaly’s Grandma recently sent us this for our upcoming holiday! It shares everything kids should expect when travelling on a plane and all the interesting details that come with the hustle and bustle of an airport. We also have Busy Airport, which Parker’s loved looking at too!
Which stories do your kids request? I’m always on the look out for new reads!
