Once Parker reached 6 months we knew he’d soon need his own high-chair, so we jumped at the chance to test out the new Nomi Highchair by Evomove. I should start by saying I was a little nervous to test out the Nomi, so sure was I that we already owned the perfect high-chair, which my eldest son Finlay is currently using. How could I not be biased? Could it possibly live up to my (rather unreasonable) expectations? But when I heard that it had been designed by the renowned Norwegian furniture designer, Peter Opsvik, I knew we’d be in safe hands.
As soon as we unpacked the Nomi I was surprised by how neat it was. It’s lightweight and easy to move thanks to the bottom wheels. These small wheels on the rear legs are also a safety feature to reduce the risk of the chair tilting, in case your child pushes backwards from the table. I’ve found it fits into the kitchen perfectly and is ideal for smaller spaces like ours.
We went for white with a beech oak finish, but there are plenty of colour options should you wish to customise. We’ve also tested the soft seat pads in light blue and the baby harness, which have been ideal for keeping Parker even more secure and comfortable in the chair. They aren’t pictured as I made the mistake of giving Parker his lunch first before taking these photos and… you guessed it… food everywhere! But a testament to how easy the Nomi is to wipe clean after mealtimes.
Just like Finlay’s chair, the Nomi is designed to grow with your child. You can use it right from birth with the baby-seat right up until they reach their teenage years! One of my favourite features is how easy it is to adjust the seat and footrest without the need for any fiddly tools. Instead, everything is controlled by two adjustment knobs, which you simply twist and untwist when changing position. The design of the unique stem of the chair ensures that the depth of the seat and footrest are always correct.
Something that’s hard to convey in images is the unique feel the Nomi has. I’d describe the chair as very smooth and soft to the touch, with organic contours so there’s no uncomfortable seating positions. The materials used are all made from sustainable and recyclable sources meaning they’re also free from any harmful substances. Proving it’s all in the little details, the Nomi’s footrest also has a small bump for an extra level of support and to offer fidgety feet a place to play. I find this simple addition rather sweet!
It’s honestly difficult to find any criticisms of this chair, we’ve simply loved using it and from an aesthetic point of view (lets face it, no-one wants an eyesore) it looks great in our home. I love the high-quality Scandinavian design and visitors are quick to spot it and enquire how we found it. However, most importantly we’ve felt Parker is always very safe. He sits and plays with his toys whilst I work at the kitchen table or whenever I’m making dinner. He loves being up at our height and joining Finlay at the table for mealtimes. I’m excited to see this chair grow with him over the next few years!
