With the days getting shorter and the rainy days more frequent, as parents the pressure is on to keep the kids entertained. Sadly, despite being an avid watcher of Bake Off, I’m no baking goddess myself. But even I was a excited to give these pirate cupcakes a go, which we were kindly sent from London based baking gurus, BKD.
The neat box comes with everything you need to make 6 delicious fluffy cupcakes, made from quality cocoa powder and freeze dried raspberries. The kit also includes cupcake cases and edible decorations! So all we needed at home was a couple of eggs and butter. Here’s how we got on…
First up we turned on some music and got out our supplies as instructed by the little booklet provided. After a few minutes of whisking together the eggs and cupcake mix we had a perfect chocolatey batter, which smelt incredible! Finlay helped me spoon the mix into our cupcake holders and next came the fun part of licking the bowl and spoon.
18 minutes later (with a now clean bowl and spoon thanks to F) our cupcakes were ready. We pulled up a chair, made our icing mixture whilst the cupcakes cooled and then got stuck into decorating. Finlay’s favourite part was sticking on the eyes and practising our pirate voices! I have to say I’m rather impressed with our efforts, so much so we almost didn’t want to eat them… Almost!
This was such a fun and easy activity to do together on a rainy day, we can’t wait to give the festive gingerbread biscuits a try next.
