I recently came across a lovely brand in the US called Bébé De Luxe, which makes beautiful natural bath products for babies. Unfortunately they don’t ship here to the UK, but after reading about all the advantages of natural bath milk I couldn’t help research how I could make my own version to help Finlay’s dry skin. It didn’t take me long to come across a few tutorials and tips!

I decided to use the same base products, coconut milk and oats, due to their many skin benefits. Coconut Milk is rich in minerals and vitamins like calcium and magnesium, along with other essential fatty acids! Whereas Oats contain both anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties making it ideal for sensitive skin. Together they make a dream combo and help moisturize and normalize skin’s pH levels.

I’m so pleased with the results of this homemade natural bath milk. You only need a spoonful or two to create a beautiful hydrating bath that smells so amazing you’ll want to eat it! I always follow up bath time by moisturising Finlay’s skin with some coco butter, which I find together really helps to soften and soothe his skin. Below is what I used to create our first batch of bath milk…

To make Finlay’s bath milk:

1. Firstly, I ordered a pack of ultra fine Scottish oats, vegan coconut milk powder and also some vitamin e oil (I actually used vitamin e capsules that we had in the cupboard).

2. I then combined around 2 tbsp of oats, 4 tbsp of coconut milk powder and around 8-10 popped vitamin e capsules (discard the shell) and whizzed them up in a food processor to combine.

3. I decided to store it all in an old mason jar and (because I’m sad) I also bought a personalised label sticker to make it look pretty.

If you wanted you could also include some additional oils such as avocado extractchamomile or lavender. Alternatively, if you’re look for something cost effective, make a cup of chamomile tea before you run the bath and allow it to cool, then add it to the bath water along with the oat / coconut mix! The results will be just as good.
