This year has seen a rise in the number of children’s fashion boutiques in the UK, joining the likes of leading retailers such as Little Bou and Alexa and Alexa. The kids’ fashion industry is booming and, as a result, it isn’t just celebrity parents getting attention for their chosen outfits; their children are too. Here’s a run down of some of the biggest names in celebrity mums vs. their kids fashion:
When it comes to fashion icons, they don’t get much bigger than the Queen of Pop herself, Madonna. She has been setting trends since she first rose to fame in the 1980s. Who can forget the white lace gloves from her performance at the VMAs in 1984, or the amazing outfits designed by Jean Paul Gaultier for the Blonde Ambition tour? It’s been over 30 years since Madonna first took the music and fashion industries by storm, but she’s still leading the way.
Following closely behind, her daughter Lourdes is one of the most famous names when it comes to celebrity kids’ fashion. She’s been making waves for years, and recently launched her very own fashion line, with a little help from her famous Mum. The Material Girl collection is available at Macy’s stores in the United States – we certainly can’t wait to see more from this talented, young designer.
Victoria Beckham a.k.a Posh Spice is one of the most respected names within the fashion industry. It took a while for her designs to be taken seriously, but she’s now one the best loved designers in celebrity circles, with her designs frequenting red carpets across the globe. Victoria’s brand has gone from strength to strength and the star has now launched her first flagship store in Mayfair London. Team VB also won Brand of the Year at the 2014 British Fashion Awards.
Now it appears her son, Romeo is following in her fashionable footsteps. Described as “the fashion one” (Grazia) by his father, Romeo Beckham first fronted Burberry’s SS13 campaign with Cara Delevinge. He was then unveiled as the face of the brand’s Christmas 14’ campaign, where Burberry saw a 10% increase in sales of trench coats thanks to the young star. He still has a long way to go before he can rival Victoria, but a future in fashion looks promising for Romeo.
Katie Holmes has come a long way since she first appeared on our screens as Joey Potter, in hit TV show Dawson’s Creek, in 1998. She very quickly built a reputation as the typical girl next door, with a casual style to match. In the early days, Katie was regularly snapped in casual jeans and t-shirts, and didn’t make much of an impact on the red carpet. However, she soon developed a taste for fashion, and is now one of the world’s biggest fashion icons. Her style is classic, sophisticated and chic, but she somehow manages to retain her natural charm.
She hasn’t even reached her 10th birthday, yet Suri Cruise is already recognised for her unique sense of style. She was listed on Glamour’s best-dressed list in 2011, and was rumoured to be in talks about her very own fashion line. Whilst a spokesperson for the Cruise family later revealed the rumour “isn’t true”, we’re sure we’ll see many more fashionable ensembles from this young fashionista.
Miranda Kerr shot to fame as a Victoria’s Secret angel in 2007 and was the first Australian to participate in one of its campaigns. Despite being quoted in Australia’s Daily Telegraph saying that she found the Australian countryside, “very grounding … there wasn’t any pretentiousness and no one really cared what you were wearing”, she has still managed to become an international style icon. Alongside her fashion status, she’s fronted cosmetic campaigns, such as Clinique and Maybelline.
Her son, Flynn with actor, Orlando Bloom was almost destined for stardom with those genes! And aged three, he made his modelling debut in Vogue Australia. Dressed in a cute pair of pajamas, he looked like a natural as he posed alongside his mum for the photos. Who’s guessing that one day we might see him do a photo shoot or front a campaign all of his own.
Kim Kardashian and North West
As two of the most recognisable names in the world, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West produced a star out of North before she was even born. Kim constantly tops the most searched for female celebrity list and has developed an incredible social media following. Her rise to fame through reality TV has meant her fashion choices have been papped, commented on and copied. Kanye is also no stranger to the fashion industry, and it seems the pair have passed on their fashion-loving gene to their 19-month-old, North.
Often spotted in chic monochrome looks and Timberland Boots, North already has fashion magazines documenting her every outfit and fashion houses showering her with their designs. Kim has expressed that North doesn’t like pink or prints, showing that she’s developing her own style already. She’s certainly not your usual toddler and with the help of her famous parents, she’s singling herself out as a little style icon to watch.
