Hi Janneke, can you tell us a bit about yourself?
Hi, I am Janneke, 37. I used to work in HR and recruitment, currently I’m taking full time care of our daughter Lucy, who just turned 2. I’m an active Instagrammer and I blog at dailyapple.nl and we live in a cute and green village called ‘Vught’ in The Netherlands.
What’s a typical day like with your family?
In the weekends we usually have one total chaos day when we have to be places and sort stuff out and the other we try to keep for pajama day. Just relax all day, maybe go drink some coffee somewhere and if the weather’s good go outside, to the woods or a playground for our daughter.
How would you describe your home?
It’s a lovely house from 1938 with a lot of original details from that time. The previous owners made it all livable and modern again. These houses are hard to find while still affordable but this one was meant to be. When I was pregnant 2,5 years ago, I had terrible morning sickness and to distract myself I would browse the internet for houses for sale. One morning I saw this house and completely fell in love with the pictures. We were the first ones to see it and a few days later it was a done deal! Our home has a nice back garden, is charming, has beautiful light, everything is crooked and squeaks and I’ve felt right at home since the day we moved in.
What room tends to get the most use?
The living room and kitchen. Our kitchen area is very light and I love to cook. When we moved in we replaced the whole kitchen and we made some other adjustments to the house to match our taste. We had the budget to either buy a new kitchen or a new bathroom so that was a clear choice for us. I try to keep our rooms as light as possible. Which sometimes is hard because I like colour as much as whites. Also, because I’m so much at home with my daughter a bright and white room and interior makes me happy. Like it’s always a little bit summer.
Where do you find your interior and style inspiration?
I’ve always been a sucker for the Interior magazines (honestly, you can wake me up for a good “before-and-after”) but it wasn’t until I really got into Instagram (hello addiction) that I saw the possibilities to redecorate the house without everything having to cost a fortune. Buying a home did a lot too because every improvement you make is really for yourself.
What’s currently on yours and daughter’s wish list?
Ah! my never ending wish list 😉 The Big Tulip chair from Pierre Paulin, the vintage kind with its original cross base has been on my list for ages. And I’d love some wallpaper in our living room. The wallpapers from Cole & Son (palm trees) and Zilverblauw (the hexagonal) are both very pretty. A Jieldé lamp. I have a tiny one on our kitchen wall but the big floor lamps are so bold and pretty!
For Lucy I’m already looking for a bigger bed. Hopefully this crib will do for a while but eventually she will have to move to a toddler bed and I found some gorgeous ones like the Rafa toddler bed and the kid size Caravan Divan from Kalon studios. I’d love a second print from Pax and Hart, so gorgeous. Oh! And I’ve been eyeing the newest Mini Rodini resort collection with cat face print.
Thank you so much Janneke for sharing your wonderful home with us!
